Riding a motorsports vehicle is exciting, but it also brings inherent safety risks. Use the following tips to set yourself up for a safe riding experience!

Keep Your Motorsports Vehicle Maintained

Just like you get regular oil changes and maintenance on your car, so should you get your motorsports vehicle serviced on a schedule. Your local dealership can explain to you how often you’ll need things like oil changes, but you can also do many minor maintenance tasks at home in your garage or shed.

For example:

  • Check the tire pressure before every ride and make sure your tires have no slow leaks, no worn spots, and no embedded objects in them.
  • Top up the fuel before every ride so you’re not stranded with an empty tank in the middle of nowhere.
  • Check your oil, coolant, and other engine fluids regularly to see that they’re clean and plentiful.

By properly maintaining your motorsports vehicle, you reduce the chances of an accident caused by a mechanical issue.

Invest in your Safety Equipment

One of the easiest ways you can protect yourself is with the safety equipment you wear when riding your motorsports vehicle. While it’ll cost extra money and you may need to spend some time saving before you can afford some of these items, it will provide more protection and they’ll most likely last longer.

Stay Sober

Once you and your motorsports vehicle are ready to head out, you’ll want to make sure you’re following basic best practices while you’re behind the throttle. Never drink and ride. Recreational drugs are a bad idea if you’re riding a motorsports vehicle but you’ll also want to check any prescriptions you’re taking to make sure it’s safe to operate heavy machinery (or, if you’re unsure, talk to your doctor). All of these things can impair your judgment and your reflexes.
