Basic motorcycle repairs and maintenance can be completed from the comfort of your own garage. However, you’ll first need the right tools for the job. This guide from the experts at Moroney’s Motorsports contains a basic list of motorcycle repair tools.

Packing the Toolkit

Different models have different maintenance needs. Feel free to make additions/substitutions to the tools listed here. If you're uncertain about anything, consult your owner’s manual for more information.

 Fold-Up Allen Wrench

Allen wrenches are used to remove and tighten your motorcycle’s fasteners, which makes getting inside the vehicle to look at the internal components much easier. Fold-up Allen wrenches are a good choice for motorcycle maintenance on the go. Just make sure that your Allen wrench fits the type of fasteners used in your motorcycle.

Flat Head Screwdriver

We recommend using the thinnest and narrowest flathead screwdriver that you can find in order to make motorcycle maintenance in tight spaces easier. We also recommend finding a screwdriver with a small magnet at the end if possible, as this will allow you to pick up dropped fasteners with ease.

Pliers

Pliers are helpful in a variety of situations. They’re helpful for straightening, loosening, and tightening parts and fasteners. They can also help you get a better grip in situations where your hands might be cold or wet.

Multi-tool

When it comes to motorcycle maintenance on the go, having one tool that can serve many functions is very practical. There are many different multitool models, so look for one that specifically has the attachments you need.

Flashlight

Inspecting and repairing your motorcycle’s internal components is much easier if you can clearly see what you’re doing. A small flashlight will illuminate all those little nooks and crannies. It will also be helpful if you’re in a situation where you need to perform repairs in the dark.

Battery Cables and Fuses

Battery cables are lightweight and can be rolled up to take up less space. They are used to fix a variety of common battery issues, so keep a few around just in case. You should also keep a few spare fuses around to swap out as needed. Just make sure that you have the right-sized fuses.
